Our Story

A significant part of my childhood unfolded in Rwoho (Kihorobo). Fortunately, my parents, employed in the city, were able to finance my education and that of my siblings up to higher levels.
During my early school years, only one out of ten girls completed primary education. I vividly recall returning home during school breaks to discover playmates, aged 13-14-15 years, with children of their own, having entered into early marriages. At that time, I perceived it as normal, as no one voiced any objections.
Growing older, I came to realize the abnormality of girls marrying at such a tender age. Youths faced various challenges leading to school dropout, including lengthy commutes, financial constraints, unstable parental income, lack of sanitary facilities (resulting in girls staying home during menstruation), a lack of motivation to stay in school, and a dearth of employment opportunities.
Two decades later, the situation remains largely unchanged. Young girls and boys continue to marry early, often without completing primary school education. Those who do finish primary school seldom progress further. The financial incapacity of most parents persists, hindering them from providing essential sanitary facilities for their daughters, consequently keeping these girls out of school during menstruation.
In 2014, driven by a proactive spirit, I embarked on efforts to transform the lives of these young boys and girls, wit support from my family and friends.
In 2019, we took the step of officially registering KIHOROBO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LINK as a non-profit organization in both Belgium and Uganda. This decision aimed to extend support to a larger number of youths and communities, with a primary focus on ensuring the sustainability of our endeavors. Ms. Cynthia Owembabazi (Founder KIYODEL)

What We Do

Our focus is on supporting the most underprivileged and vulnerable young boys and girls in impoverished rural areas of Rwoho town council – Ntungamo district.

Young boys and girls often face challenges that force them to drop out of school, preventing them from pursuing higher education, especially in secondary schools.
